Alaçatı weather and sea temperature by month

Alaçatı weather and sea temperature by month, from the Turkish State Meteorological Service's long-term averages, with the summer meltem and the best months for swimming, windsurfing, walking or a quiet winter stay.

Here is Alaçatı's weather and sea temperature by month in brief. July and August are the hottest and driest months. From June to September the sea averages above 22 °C. Most of the rain falls between November and February. The Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM) publishes no separate long-term table for Çeşme. The air figures below are therefore MGM's 1938–2025 averages for its İzmir station, and the peninsula's own values may differ. The sea figures are MGM's 1970–2017 averages for the Aegean Sea.

Winter (December–February): average highs are 12.5–14.2 °C and lows 5.8–7.6 °C. January has 12.6 rainy days on average and December 12.7, with 135–146 mm of rain. There are 4–5 hours of sunshine a day. Spring: average highs are 16.4 °C in March, 21.0 °C in April and 26.2 °C in May. Rainy days fall from 9.2 in March to 5.3 in May. Summer: average highs are 30.8–33.3 °C from June to August. July has 12.4 hours of sunshine a day and just 4.2 mm of rain. Autumn: average highs are 29.3 °C in September, 24.1 °C in October and 18.7 °C in November. October has 5.3 rainy days and 44 mm of rain on average. November brings 92 mm.

Sea temperature (Aegean Sea, MGM average 1970–2017): January 13.7, February 13.2, March 13.9, April 15.8, May 18.7, June 22.0, July 24.1, August 24.4, September 23.1, October 20.6, November 17.8, December 15.4 °C. February is the coldest month for the sea and August the warmest. The Aegean is warming. MGM data show its yearly average rising from 18.2 °C in 1970–1979 to 19.5 °C in 2013–2023, so recent readings may run above these long-term averages. MGM posts daily sea temperatures on its website.

Wind: Alaçatı's summer wind is the meltem, which locals call poyraz. According to a windsurfing guide, it blows Force 5 to 7 through summer afternoons. The north-easterly gerence, mostly a morning wind, can sometimes blow even harder. Spring and autumn still bring wind, but it comes more often from the south (lodos) and is more variable. Our pages 'Windsurfing and kitesurfing in Alaçatı' and 'Alaçatı surf schools' cover the bays, the season and the schools.

Which month for what? For swimming, the sea is warmest from June to September and still averages 20.6 °C in October. For windsurfing, the summer meltem gives the steadiest wind. For walking, April–May and October–November are mild. In July and August average highs approach 33 °C, so it is best to walk in the morning or evening. For a quiet winter stay, December to February is wet but mild. In winter, two or three days suit the quiet town. From spring until the end of autumn there is much to do, and a week passes quickly. Our pages 'Alaçatı through the year' and 'Winter in Alaçatı' have more.
