New Year's Eve in Alaçatı: how to plan the night

A plain guide to New Year's Eve in Alaçatı and Çeşme: what is open in winter, how the night usually goes, why to book early, what to ask a venue and how to get back afterwards.

New Year's Eve in Alaçatı is the one winter night when the quiet town fills up again. In short: book your dinner and your room early, plan how you will get back after midnight, and think of the days that follow as a calm winter break. In recent years Çeşme Municipality has held music in the squares of both Alaçatı and Çeşme on 31 December, and it announces each year's programme in December.

In winter much of Alaçatı closes, but New Year is the exception. A 2018 Hürriyet piece says many venues that are closed in winter open for New Year's Eve and start preparing weeks ahead. In December 2025 the Çeşme Tourist Hoteliers' Association said businesses and shops in Çeşme, Alaçatı and Ilıca had been decorated for the new year. Which places open changes from year to year. Our page on winter in Alaçatı describes the rest of the season.

The night usually starts with a set New Year's dinner. Restaurants and meyhanes offer fixed menus, large hotels sell packages with or without a gala, and five-star hotels in Alaçatı mostly sell packages. The 2018 account describes guests spilling into the streets after dinner, music from the venues lasting until morning, and fires lit in barrels to keep warm. On 31 December 2025 the municipality planned DJ sets from 21:00 to 01:00 in Alaçatı Square and Çeşme Square. When 2018 arrived, fireworks lit the sky over Çeşme and Alaçatı at midnight.

There is a good reason to book early. DHA reported on 18 December 2025 that Çeşme's hotels were about 50% full in early December and 70–80% full a few weeks later, with 90% expected on New Year's Eve. Alaçatı bookings were coming in later, but its open hotels were expected to fill. Before you book, ask the venue: are drinks after midnight included in the menu (in 2018 they were usually extra)? Is there music, and when does the night end? Is there an age limit? Is the seating indoors or outdoors, and is it heated? What are the deposit and cancellation terms? Are a room and breakfast included in the package?

Plan the way back before the night. Don't drive if you have been drinking; arrange transport with your hotel or the venue in advance. On New Year's Eve 2025, ESHOT ran the last buses on 64 İzmir lines until between 01:00 and 02:05, with Baykuş night buses every 30 minutes. Those lines run within İzmir, though, and we found no announcement of extra services to Çeşme. On 1 January, public transport in İzmir ran on its Sunday timetable. Our Getting to Alaçatı page covers the journey itself.

The days after New Year are different: the streets empty and the town goes back to its winter quiet. In winter, two or three days are enough to get to know quiet Alaçatı. From spring until the end of autumn there is far more to do, and a week passes quickly. If you would rather come earlier, our page on Alaçatı in autumn covers October to early December.
